School students can't wait - Get on with Gonski

Dear friend,

Today, in schools across Australia, students in disadvantaged areas are up to three years behind their peers in wealthy areas. One out of every seven 15 year old students lacks basic reading skills.

We can start to address these gaps today.

It's been over six months since the ground-breaking Gonski Review of school funding recommended that Australian schools receive an extra $5 billion a year and proposed a new system that would finally fund schools according to the needs of their students.

If you agree with us that it's time to get on with Gonski, we want to share your views with Parliament.

The Greens are the only party that fully supports investing in schools as recommended by Gonski.

The ALP Government is yet to commit and Tony Abbott's Liberals want to keep the current unfair system that will cut more than $670 million out of public schools by 2016. We need to make sure they both understand the true level of community support for investing more in our schools.

Share your school stories with us and we will deliver them directly to members of the Government and the Opposition in Parliament.

Click through to our website to tell us what difference the Gonski Review would make for you and your community. We will read your responses out in Parliament and make sure that your views are delivered directly to your local MP.

Please tell us:

  • What an extra investment would mean for your school;
  • How your school experiences have shaped your life; and
  • Why a well-funded school system is crucial to our future.

The Greens believe in a public school system that can deliver a high quality education for every child.

Yours sincerely,

Penny Wright

P.S. If you believe in a strong public school system too, make sure Parliament knows.
