SA hit hardest by Abbott's broken promise on ABC

Media Release
Penny Wright 24 Nov 2014

Australian Greens Senator for South Australia Penny Wright says South Australia has been hardest hit by the ABC job cuts, with 7.30 SA, the Port Augusta radio bureau and local TV production to close.

"Today's announcement is gut-wrenching. Our local ABC is a vital part of South Australia's media landscape and our community," Senator Wright said.

"Christopher Pyne's hypocritical petition to save South Australian TV production has proved as useless as Tony Abbott's promise of 'no cuts to the ABC'.

"My thoughts are with those today who will lose their jobs through Tony Abbott's broken promise.

"The Australian Greens will be leading the campaign to see this funding restored."

Senator Wright said the Friday night 7.30 SA program, formally Stateline, would be sorely missed.

"Over the years 7.30 SA and Stateline have covered local issues like no other - their in-depth coverage of SA issues is a great loss and will reduce the accountability of government and institutions in our state," she added.
