SA climate agreements shame Abbott Government's RET destruction
The new climate agreements signed by the Adelaide City Council and State Governments have left the Abbott Government marooned, says Australian Greens Senator for SA Penny Wright.
"The Abbott Government's determination to destroy the renewable energy target is an international embarrassment and risks local jobs here in SA," Senator Wright said.
"South Australia has the highest percentage of homes with solar panels, the most energy sourced from renewables and the most investment at risk from an Abbott government intent on propping up the profits of big polluters.
"If the RET goes, $2.9 billion of investment in our state will go overseas instead.
"We have all other levels of government taking action, it's time for the Abbott Government to stand up for jobs here in South Australia and get serious about tackling climate change."
