Remembering all those who served on ANZAC Day

As we remember those who fought for our country, we should also remember those who died in the pursuit of peace, says Australian Greens spokesperson on Veterans Affairs, Senator Penny Wright.

"ANZAC Day is a great opportunity to remember all of those affected by war, whether it is those who died in service, those who returned but live with the scars, or families and loved ones who also bear the brunt," said Senator Wright.

"This year we particularly remember Australia's peacekeepers, following the historic decision to finally recognise these brave men and women on the Australian War Memorial's Roll of Honour.

"Since 1947 members of the Australian Defence Forces and Australian Federal Police have served Australia's interests as peacekeepers, honourably and with courage, in situations of conflict and danger."

President of the Australian Peacekeeper & Peacemaker Veterans' Association SA, Wayne Alexander OAM JP, said it was important to recognise peacekeeper service.

"They need to be acknowledged because they do exactly the same job as other soldiers," Mr Alexander said.

"They still wear the same uniform, still carry the same weapons and their lives are still in danger. It's just the rules of engagements that are different.

"Peacekeepers are soldiers and professional personnel doing their jobs for the good of the country."
