Pyne plays public for fools on Gonski

Media Release
Penny Wright 27 Nov 2013

Australian Greens spokesperson for schools Senator Penny Wright has today called on the Coalition Government to end the deliberate deceit about school funding.

"Tony Abbott and Christopher Pyne have played the public for fools, changing their commitment to schools on a daily basis," Senator Wright said.

"They continue to be deliberately deceitful in claiming they never promised anything more than money, but just 10 days ago - Christopher Pyne said he was committed to the money and the model.

"Today no one can trust him to be committed to either.

"Mr Pyne can't blame anyone else for his poor policies - neither the press gallery nor the public are fools. It's plain as daylight that our kids will be worse off under his plan.

"Mr Pyne and Tony Abbott need to meet with the Gonski panel and do their homework before they tear down the best chance our kids have had to get a world-class education.

"The money without the Gonski model won't fix our schools. Education standards will only rise if we give help to those kids who need it most.

"The Australian Greens are standing up for the future of our children and we will block any and every attempt to wrench us back to the broken Howard system where schools with the most got more and schools that struggled were ignored."
