Mental Health Roadmap Needs Clearer Milestones: Greens

Media Release
Penny Wright 15 Feb 2012

The Australian Greens share concerns that the Government’s draft 10-year roadmap for mental health reform does not provide a clear way forward.

The Greens plan to ask questions about the consultation and implementation process of the roadmap during Senate Estimates.

“These questions urgently needed to be answered given mental health experts, including John Mendoza and Alan Rosen have called on the Government to scrap the current draft of the roadmap due to its lack of clearly defined goals”, Greens spokesperson for mental health, Senator Penny Wright, said.

“Roadmaps show destinations, and the Government’s 10-year roadmap for mental health reform should be no different. The current draft of the roadmap lacks clearly defined goals.

"This roadmap is an opportunity to establish the way forward.  We need clear milestones so that we can be sure we are heading in the right direction.

“The direction in which our mental health system goes for the next decade is very important and we can't afford to lose our way. The roadmap must include clear destinations and signposts along the way so we can genuinely track our progress.”
