Protect Kangaroo Island
Too Precious to Lose
Kangaroo Island is one of our most significant wilderness places, home to many wonderful creatures, including the threatened Australian Sea-lion, and a feeding ground for the majestic Blue Whale.
The expansion of oil and gas activities off the west coast of the island will have a serious impact on this magnificent environment.
Bight Petroleum currently has permits to explore for offshore petroleum in an area to the west of the island known as the Kangaroo Island Canyon and Pools.
This is a critical place for many threatened, endangered and protected species, and the life force of Kangaroo Island's fishing industry.
The first step, before drilling for oil, is seismic testing.
Scientific evidence shows seismic testing causes serious harm to marine life - disrupting breeding and feeding patterns as sea creatures swim away from the loud sound pulses which can cause hearing damage and even death.
We need your help to tell Minister Hunt that oil and gas is all risk and no gain for the Kangaroo Island community, economy and environment.
